The baby looks at things all day without winking; that is because his eyes are not focused on any particular object. He goes without knowing where he is going, and stops without knowing what he is doing. He merges himself within the surroundings and moves along with it. These are the principles of mental hygiene.

Moshe Feldenkrais pioneered this vision of “learning how to learn” through careful study and investigation of himself and numerous individuals from all walks of life. He was an Israeli scientist in the areas of physics and engineering and highly trained in the martial arts. His curiosity about human potential and the ability for each person to fully live their lives with incredible ease and maximum efficiency began with his own need to restore his own function after a series of injuries brought on by his involvement in sport and the martial arts.  He deeply investigated numerous fields of human movement, structure and function. His absolute curiosity for the human body and its interaction with its environment, coupled with his formal trainings in the physical sciences led to the development of what is now called The Feldenkrais Method.
